PDK delivered a major educational construction project for Two Oceans Learning Academy in Cape Town.
Starlight Academy involved a broad construction programme extending from early civils and foundation work through to the final handover stages. The project required consistent coordination between trades as structural work, building services, finishes and external works progressed across the site.
Site conditions and programme pressures meant construction sequencing had to be managed carefully throughout the build, with practical decisions made on site to keep work moving without losing control of the finished result.

The works included stormwater installation, deep services, dewatering, excavation for the raft slab, brickwork, precast deck placement, roofing, classroom floor works, plastering, painting, paving, landscaping and final snagging.
The scope moved through civil preparation, structural construction, building finishes and external works before the school entered its final handover phase.
Ground conditions created several practical problems during the build. A high water table affected excavation, trenches were prone to collapse, and poor ground conditions complicated parts of the early works. Strong winds also affected planned lifting operations, while the final programme had to account for work being completed around the school calendar.
The team used dewatering and segmented excavation to manage the wet and unstable ground conditions. Crane working areas were prepared before lifting operations, and construction activities were sequenced around site conditions and available working windows.
As the project moved towards completion, additional weekend work and close coordination between trades helped maintain progress through the finishing and snagging stages.
